Poem - Inner Beauty by Max Friedman
Inner beauty is to me
The hardest and easiest thing to see
Hard because of the world we're in
Easy because my eyes aren't dim
Don't get down because of your reflection
Because inner beauty is like a contagious infection
When you find it, others do too
So to be beautiful, it's all up to you
Everyone has it, though it's not always found
You must believe in you and turn your life around
Because when you glow everyone will see
The true you and your inner beauty...
The hardest and easiest thing to see
Hard because of the world we're in
Easy because my eyes aren't dim
Don't get down because of your reflection
Because inner beauty is like a contagious infection
When you find it, others do too
So to be beautiful, it's all up to you
Everyone has it, though it's not always found
You must believe in you and turn your life around
Because when you glow everyone will see
The true you and your inner beauty...
Explanation of Image
The image above is a perfect way to summarize the poem to the left in one picture. The poem is talking about how it is important for you, yourself to recognize your inner beauty in order for others to then be able to see it as well. In this image the kitten sees itself as a ferocious and courageous lion, no matter how young or weak it may appear on the outside. This is reflecting the words of the poem when the writer says “because inner beauty is like a contagious infection, when you find it, others do too”. This meaning, that now that the kitten has realized its inner self and its beauty on the inside, others will be able to see them in this way as well. In addition to this, the caption of the image is “what matters most is how you see yourself”. This is a very true statement when considering the topic of inner beauty. No matter how others view you or how society views you or forces you to view yourself, the most important thing is the positive thoughts that you put into your mind about yourself. Once you have established this sense for what your inner identity is, other people will recognize it as well and will see your true natural beauty from the inside out. Lastly, both the poem and the image exemplify the fact that even though it may seem as though inner beauty does not always exist, it is always there, and you are the only one who can convince yourself of this. This is displayed through the line stating, “everyone has it, even though it’s not always found”. This connects to the image as the kitten is seeing what it chooses to see and what it believes it has within itself, reflecting the lines of this poem. In conclusion, the above image is an excellent representation of the chosen poem as it ties in the theme and main message together in a very powerful way.
